Late Summer Fishing Report – SW Florida July 17th, 2012

"tarpon hammerhead shark"

While most guides in Southwest Florida have changed their targeted species to fish like Grouper, Snapper, Snook, Trout & Redfish, here at Tenacity Guide Service, we still target your trophy of a lifetime like the mighty Silver King (Tarpon) or maybe the coolest predator in the water ~ The Shark. People ask why we target the bigger species this late into the year.  Our reason is simple – because they are here. Less people fishing for them means less pressure on the fish.  And nothing gets your blood pumping like watching a monster Tarpon leap into the air or watching 200 yards of braid peel off the reel as a 9 foot bull shark eats a bait and the fight is ON! If any of this sounds like fun, give us a call. We also love taking children and anyone else that wishes to go. We can tailor our trips to your liking.

15+ foot hammerheads like this one we recently encountered are sure to give ya a rush!!!

How to remove a hook!!

Jun - 15 2012 | no comments | By

From avid anglers to novices.. we have ALL had that freak accident and scored a solid hook lodged deep within our flesh ~ be it hand, head, foot, you name it!!! The immediate reaction is to tug it out by force, pain and/or gimmick! But hear ye, hear ye.. there is an easier way my friends! Keep calm… in the video below, Capt. Bo Johnson of Tenacity Guide Service demonstrates a technique that easily removes the hook painlessly through the same entry hole. If you have any questions on how to perform this operation, call 239.633.4662! GOOD LUCK 🙂

Amazing Tarpon Jumps

Jun - 07 2012 | no comments | By

The Tarpon, also known as the Silver King, is one of the most sought after trophy fish on this planet for good reason. They put on an aerial show that is arguably the best in the sea. The power and might with which they fight makes the battle one of strength and endurance. Normal fish merely jump, but tarpon skyrocket towards the heavens violently shaking in efforts to shake the hook that binds them ~ all that stands between their freedom and a photo of a lifetime for our clients 🙂

"tarpon landed in the water"

“Bow to the King” has become the popular catch phrase for the technique used to maximize the odds of boating this fish. When “bowing”, one drops their rod tip and points it at the airborne beauty flipping through the sky while reeling. This technique  minimizes the odds that the hook is thrown. But even the most valiant and error free angler efforts can’t ensure a successful catch and release. Nevertheless, it is an exhilarating experience that keeps anglers in hot pursuit time and time again.

The following video demonstrates how the Silver King has come to earn his worthy title!!

March 1st – Southwest Florida Fishing Report

Mar - 01 2012 | no comments | By

Tenacity’s Guide Service * Capt. Bo Johnson * March 1st 2012 * Pine Island Sound

With a very mild winter upon us, the water temperatures are rising everyday and pushing all species to an early appearance.

The redfish are schooling up pretty tight right now. High tides are making for some great bush fishing.

The trout bite has been on fire! They are avidly eating the 4″ Al Gag whip-it-eel lure. Hot colors have been New penny and Pearl white strung on a Chartreuse 1/4 oz jig head. You’ll get the best bite on drop offs in 3 to 5 foot of water…and some of ur bigger fish up to 28 inches coming off the shallower grass flats 1 to 3 feet deep.

Quite a few pompano are eating Al Gag’s pearl white 4” whip-it-eel. Hook-ups while trout fishing are common.

Last year we were consistently catching tarpon by the second week of March. This year is shaping up to be the same. Cut bait is our choice for this time of year. Your tarpon can be found in troughs and sloughs. We are seeing some free jumpers and also some laid up fish in the normal places, its just a matter of time with waters approaching the magical temperature that we will be flying the mighty Silver King!

And how can we forget the coolest fish in the gulf….SHARKS! They are HERE and we like it. Right now, Bulls and monster Black tips are the norm, and soon the Sand tigers and Lemons will be added to the game. And if ya are up for a real challenge, the giant HAMMERHEADS will be ready to play very soon. There is nothing like the two top predators on land and sea colliding for an epic battle of wits and gear. Our new custom rigs by Sewell Rods and Canyon Reels make for a top-notch battle. A picture of a lifetime awaits!
